But, Spirit Shroud only lasts for one minute vs one hour for Summon Fey, and Summon Fey's magical darkness also gives enemies disadvantage against you, so I still find Summon Fey the stronger option (unless you are dealing with special senses like Truesight). If they are both cast at level 6 then Spirit Shroud pulls slightly ahead: 174.70 vs 171.43. If Spirit Shroud and Summon Fey are both cast at level 4 then we have 161.08 DPR for the Elven Accuracy version and 118.90 for the Spirit Shroud version. The latter uses Hexblade's Curse on round 1 so the two cast the same number of Eldritch Blasts.Īlso, this assumes that the Sorcerer gets access to Summon Fey like in the UA. Then I went ahead and compared the Spirit Shroud Sorlock vs the Elven Accuracy Sorlock but this time with the new Summon Fey (precast, it lasts one hour) that can also create magical darkness for you to stand in as well as add its own damage to the mix. This isn't the most useful comparison of course because of the extra EB on round 1 but it gives us a rough idea. The Spirit Shroud Sorlock has the advantage of casting an extra EB on round 1, but beyond that it takes a 5th level Spirit Shroud to (slightly) outdamage the Darkness version. I used a target AC distribution of 15 to 20. I ran the numbers on anydice on a level 20 Elven Accuracy Sorlock who casts Darkness + Hexblade's Curse on round 1 and then EB twice on each successive turn vs a level 20 Sorlock using Spirit Shroud (in which case it's not worth it to use Hexblade's Curse most of the time, since they are both a bonus action). If you were say a 17th level character, you could BA Spirit shroud at the 8th level and deal upwards of 4d10+20+16d8, assuming again that you didn’t lose concentration the next turn with a quickened EB for your BA would be 8d10+40+32d8 (228 Average without factoring in to hit chance or crits). You can use this atop your normal Eldritch Blast. This means a 4th lvl slot equals 2d8 per hit, 6th means 3d8, and 8th means 4d8. When upcast to 4th level and every two levels after that it increases by 1d8. It can deal Necrotic, Cold, or Radiant damage (your choice). Spirit Shroud is a 3rd level spell that requires a BA to cast and it adds 1d8 damage to each successful attack you make.
